In Sahoo vs State of Uttar Pradesh, 1965 the court were asked to apply a double test : - whether the confessions were trustworthy and True.

If the above two statements are met will the confession be relied on.
In Muthuswamy vs. state , 1951, the court accepted that confession shouldn't be accepted merely because it contains a wealth of details. Unless the main features of the story are meant to be true; it would not be safe as a matter of prudence, to base a conviction on confession itself.
